What Is The Parental Rota? The Band's
Child Protection Policy now requires that for
¯A
Band there is one parent / carer present ¯B Band there are two parents / carers present ¯C Band there is
one parents / carers present ¯Learner Band all parents
/ carers must be present
in rehearsals with the Musical Director or Conductor. This is for health and safety, child protection and
ensuring good conduct.
What Does A Parent Supporting Rehearsals Have To Do? As a Parent supporting rehearsals you have a number of duties and
responsibilities:
¯Supporting the conductor in ensuring all children are
ready to start on time; ¯Supporting the conductor during
the rehearsal if a child starts to misbehave, act in an unsafe manner or are generally disruptive, this includes removing
the child from the room for a short period of time and/or contacting their parent to collect them; ¯Managing the tuck shop during the break and making the conductor and yourself a drink; ¯Supervising the children during the break whether they are inside or outside (weather permitting).
You also have the final decision on where the children are allowed to play but they must be accompanied if they go
outside; ¯Supporting the conductor in ensuring all the children
pack away the music stands and chairs at the end of the session; ¯Ensuring
that any litter is put in the bin and that the Scout Hut is left clean and tidy; ¯Supporting
the conductor in ensuring no child leaves a rehearsal until a parent collects them. Remember that if there is not the required number of parents, guardians or
friends present then the rehearsal may have to be cancelled and the children sent home.
